Report: Samson shares life-saving effort

Published Sep. 21, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Florida Marlins president David Samson was part of a group that attempted to rescue the driver of a mangled pickup truck after it crashed on a Miami-area highway Wednesday morning.

Samson told the Sun-Sentinel he was on his way into downtown Miami when he saw the pickup truck slam into the back of a utility truck on Florida's Turnpike. He said he and others ran to the pickup truck, but could not get to the driver.

"We tried to save the man's life and we couldn't," Samson told the paper. "We tried everything. We tried to talk to him, we tried to get to him, we tried to open the door."

Crews reportedly arrived on the scene to cut the driver free from the wrecked pickup truck.
