Report: Owners to get replay plan

Major League Baseball owners will be presented with a proposal for expanded instant replay Wednesday, USA Today reports.

The proposal, which will be presented by MLB vice presidents Joe Torre and Tony La Russa and Atlanta Braves president John Schuerholz, reportedly will be comprehensive enough to include all calls with the exception of balls and strikes.

The league has used replay since 2008 but only for disputed home run calls. There has been growing support for a more thorough system from fans, players, owners and even umpires in recent seasons.

If approved by the owners, the proposal will be brought to the players association and umpires union in hopes of it being put into place for the 2014 season, according to USA Today.

Among the issues that still must be resolved: expensive monitoring systems must be installed in each ballpark; the challenge system must be finalized; and concerns about the delays that likely will be associated with replay challenges must be alleviated.
