Report: Blue Jays were interested in Kazmir before Houston trade

Published Jul. 24, 2015 12:59 a.m. ET

Before the Oakland A's traded lefty Scott Kazmir to the Houston Astros, the Toronto Blue Jays were reportedly interested:

Rumors have swirled for quite some time that the Jays are trying to acquire a starting pitcher. Now, according to FOX Sports insider Ken Rosenthal, they're interested in Carlos Carrasco, but it's seen as a long shot.

Heading into Thursday's games, the Blue Jays sat 5.5 games back of the first-place New York Yankees, but just three games back in the Wild Card.

With so many other starting pitchers rumored to be available, don't be surprised if Toronto makes a move before July 31.
