Report: Belisario suspended 25 games

Published Dec. 20, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Dodgers reliever Ronald Belisario has been handed a 25-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday night, citing a source.

The source did not specify how Belisario had violated the policy.

During the 2010 season, Belisario left the Dodgers for over a month to receive treatment in a substance-abuse program.

The hard-throwing Venezuelan missed all of last season with visa problems, but had received a valid visa for the next five years.

He is still expected to be in Arizona for the start of spring training, despite not being on the Dodgers' opening-day roster.
