Rehabbing Reds closer Chapman reportedly hits 101 on radar gun

Cincinnati Reds lefthander Aroldis Chapman made his first minor-league rehab appearance Thursday night, striking out two batters in a scoreless inning for Class A Dayton.

According to multiple reports, Chapman twice hit 101 mph on the radar gun and had two other pitches clocked at 100.

Chapman, who saved 38 games for the second consecutive season in 2013, is making his way back from a head injury suffered during spring training when he was hit by a line drive. He needed surgery to repair fractures near his nose and left eye.

"There is no fear, no hesitation with me. ... I don't think about that at all," Chapman told MLB.com through his interpreter after his outing Thursday. "The only time I remember [the injury] is when you guys ask me."

Chapman could make his regular-season debut with the Reds as early as next week.
