BOSTON (AP) The Red Sox promoted right-hander Dalier Hinojosa and left-hander Tommy Layne from Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday before their game against Toronto.

To make room on the roster, the club sent outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. back to Pawtucket and designated right-hander Anthony Varvaro for assignment.

The 29-year old Hinojosa is on a major league roster for the first time. Layne, 30, made the opening day roster and appeared in four games, allowing three runs in 4 2-3 innings before being demoted April 12.

The 30-year old Varvaro made nine relief appearances, going 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA.
