Red Sox broadcaster's son must give DNA sample
WOBURN, Mass. (AP) A judge has ordered the son of a Boston Red Sox broadcaster charged with fatally stabbing his girlfriend to submit a DNA sample.
At a hearing Wednesday, the Middlesex Superior Court judge approved collection of a saliva sample from Jared Remy.
Remy, the 35-year-old son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, has been charged with murder in the Aug. 15 death of girlfriend Jennifer Martel at their Waltham apartment. He has pleaded not guilty. He did not attend Wednesday's hearing.
The judge also approved an order from prosecutors and signed off on by Jared Remy's attorney to seal an interview that investigators conducted with the couple's then-4-year-old daughter a day after the slaying. The little girl allegedly witnessed events.
Remy's trial is scheduled for October.
