Red Sox 2B Pedroia scratched from lineup

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was scratched from the lineup for Thursday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels with a sore left foot.

The 2008 AL MVP missed 44 games after he was placed on the disabled list on June 26 with a broken bone in his foot. He was activated Tuesday and played the last two games, going 1 for 7 with a single and a walk.

''I took BP and was running the bases and it didn't feel great,'' he said before Thursday's game. ''Hopefully tomorrow's a better day.''

Pedroia played two games on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket and was told the soreness wasn't unusual.

''I just talked to the doctor,'' he said. ''Two days in Pawtucket and two days in this environment, it's to be expected. My foot's pretty sore.''

He said he didn't expect to be able to go all out for the remainder of the season.

''It's kind of impossible to come back and play 43 straight games,'' he said. ''It's pretty sore in the area I broke it.''

Pedroia is hitting .288 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs in 75 games.

Jed Lowrie got the start at second against the Angels and was batting second.
