Rays' Archer loses no-hit bid on 1-out infield single in 7th

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Tampa Bay's Chris Archer lost his perfect game bid with one out in the seventh inning when Jose Iglesias reached on an infield single.

Iglesias hit a ball between short and third that shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera fielded, but his off-balance one-hop throw was not in time to beat the Tigers shortstop at first.

Archer also allowed a an RBI single by J.D. Martinez that tied the score at 1-all in the inning. The Tigers lead 2-1, still batting in the seventh inning.

Justin Verlander retired his first 14 batters before Cabrera homered on an 0-1 pitch with two outs in the fifth to become the games' first baserunner.
