Rays 3B Evan Longoria scratched from lineup

Published Sep. 22, 2013 2:17 p.m. ET

Tampa Bay Rays slugger Evan Longoria has been scratched from the starting lineup due to flu-like symptoms.

The team announced the news about 40 minutes before the start of Sunday's game against Baltimore. Kelly Johnson replaced Longoria at third base.

Longoria is hitting .263 with 29 homers and 77 RBIs in 151 games this season.

The Rays recalled pitcher Enny Romero from Triple-A Durham to make his major league debut Sunday against the Orioles.

Romero went 11-7 with Double-A Montgomery before joining Durham for one regular-season start Sept. 2, in which he threw eight scoreless innings against Norfolk. The left-hander also pitched out of the bullpen for Durham on Sept. 13 in the International League playoffs.

Tampa Bay purchased the contract of right-hander J.D. Martin from Durham to provide additional bullpen depth.
