Rangers win challenge on pickoff against Phillies

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Rangers manager Ron Washington has won his first challenge after instant replay overturned a call that Philadelphia baserunner Ben Revere was safe on a pickoff attempt at second base.

Umpire Cory Blaser made the call on Texas left-hander Martin Perez's pickoff throw to second baseman Donnie Murphy on Tuesday night. The replay showed Murphy's glove on Revere's back as he caught the ball and before Revere's hand got back to the bag.

The reversal saved the Rangers a run in a two-run sixth for the Phillies.

Washington decided against challenging a call moments earlier by Jim Joyce at third base. Joyce called Cesar Hernandez safe on a sacrifice bunt by Revere, and Washington came out to talk to the crew chief but didn't challenge. Replay showed the call was correct.
