Rangers' Washington gets fine for ump criticism

Published Jul. 22, 2011 7:38 p.m. ET

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington has received the big fine he's expected since criticizing umpire Angel Hernandez early this month.

Washington said Friday that he had just received the fine ''and it wasn't nice.'' He wouldn't say how much it was, only that it was a lot.

Washington and first-base coach Gary Pettis were ejected by Hernandez during a game July 3 against Florida.

After the 6-4 loss, Washington said, ''Angel is bad. That's all there is to it.'' The following day, Washington reiterated his feelings, saying it was the truth and that he expected to be fined.
