Rangers unconcerned with Gallo's four-strikeout game

Published Jun. 7, 2015 3:00 p.m. ET

Texas Rangers prospect Joey Gallo struck out four times on Friday night in Kansas City, his first 'golden sombrero' since making his Rangers debut last week.

Despite the night, the Rangers don't appear to be overly concerned with it - or his 'all-or-nothing' approach at the plate.

As manager Jeff Banister told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News to that effect: “With the power, the strikeouts do come with it. But you do want him to swing with authority. It’s not about cutting down the swing. It’s about recognizing the pitch. I’m not concerned."

As for the coaching staff's advice to Gallo, who has now struck out 12 times 21 at-bats in the big leagues, Banister said this: “We will watch the body language and see what he’s saying. We will contribute to try to help him. Right now, we pat him on the butt and say ‘Go get them tomorrow, kid.’”
