Rangers' Rios, Garza ejected against A's

Alex Rios and Matt Garza were ejected late in the Texas Rangers' game against the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

Third base umpire Andy Fletcher booted Rios after calling the right fielder out when he tried to advance from first to third on Adrian Beltre's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth. Rios argued that he had slid in ahead of Oakland left fielder Yoenis Cespedes' throw to third baseman Josh Donaldson. Fletcher's call ended Texas' six-run rally in the inning.

When Fletcher ruled in the top of the ninth on appeal that the A's Coco Crisp had not swung at a pitch from Jason Frasor, Rangers players in the dugout along the first-base line were irate. First base umpire Joe West, the crew chief, approached the dugout and ejected Garza. The right-hander did not play in the game.
