Pyrotechnics at Braves' home opener sets American flag on fire
This falls under the category of "Let's not try that again."
The folks planning out the home opener festivities at Turner Field for the Atlanta Braves are rethinking their pyrotechnic displays after the American flag above the outfield scoreboard caught on fire.
During the pregame introductions, the organization tried a new pyrotechnic setup. Fireworks launched from the top of the outfield scoreboard and the American flag waving right nearby was a little too close to the action.
Fortunately, the incident was more one of embarassment than serious emergency.
The flag was made of flame retardant material and burned itself out pretty quickly.
Needless to say, fireworks will no longer be set off from that scoreboard.
And, according to Atlanta's 11Alive, the flag will be replaced on Wednesday.
