Police blotter: Pats' Dennard busted

New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of DUI in Lincoln, Neb.

Dennard reportedly was straddling the lane line while driving, and he refused a chemical test after being pulled over.

The Patriots released this statement: "The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident."

This isn't Dennard's first brush with the law. This spring, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years of probation and 100 hours of law enforcement-related community service, according to The Omaha World-Herald. That stemmed from him punching a police officer who was investigating a fight outside a downtown Lincoln bar.

THE HANGOVER 4

San Francisco Giants righthander Chad Gaudin had a night to forget about – literally -- in January, but the police obviously remember. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Gaudin was charged with open and gross lewdness earlier this month for an absolutely bizarre incident in Sin City six months ago.

Gaudin, who is married, somehow ended up at Desert Springs Hospital, several miles from the Las Vegas strip. Once there, he allegedly groped a 23-year-old woman who was on a gurney. Gaudin, described in the police report as appearing to be drunk, ignored warnings from the hospital security to leave the woman alone and had to be restrained until police arrived.

In a statement released Wednesday, Gaudin's lawyer claims his client "was examined in the emergency room of a local hospital while experiencing symptoms believed to be related to acute renal failure due to a condition known as rhabdomyolysis. The symptoms included confusion, dehydration and loss of orientation and/or consciousness."

PEACE PIPE

Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez isn’t due back in court until Sept. 3, but more details of his marijuana bust are leaking.

Police searched Perez’s home on June 4, just days after a couple of suspicious packages addressed to his dog caught the attention of the U.S. Postal Service. The Plain Dealer reports authorities seized two marijuana pipes, a bong and a small amount of pot during their search. In addition, they recovered two Ziploc bags with marijuana roaches in them and two metal grinders used to break down the plant’s buds.

Perez and his wife, Melanie, have been charged with drug abuse, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
