Polanco has successful elbow surgery

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco's had successful surgery on his injured left elbow.

General manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. says Polanco's expected to be ready for spring training after a doctor removed spurs from the elbow and repaired a tendon on Friday.

Polanco's recovery is expected to take until early January.

He hit .298 with six homers and 52 RBI in his first season with the NL East champions.
