The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-hander Jared Hughes from Triple-A Indianapolis, a day after demoting struggling Evan Meek to the minors.

This is the third call-up this season for Hughes, who was recalled for a doubleheader on April 25 and sent back to the minors later in the day. Hughes has allowed two earned runs in 9 2-3 innings for a 1.68 ERA.

Meek, an NL All-Star in 2010, allowed three inherited runs to score and was charged with one earned run in 1 2-3 innings against the Braves on Friday night. He had a 5.59 ERA in nine games, allowing 12 hits and six runs in 9 2-3 innings.

The 28-year-old Meek was 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 24 games in 2011 and 5-4 with a 2.14 ERA in 2010.
