Pirates' Burnett not worried about All-Star Game

Published Jun. 16, 2015 11:37 p.m. ET

A.J. Burnett is having a great season so far and although he is likely to make the first All-Star game of his 17-year career, he says he's not focused on the potential honor.

"No … I'm just trying to get through Friday," Burnett told Pirates.com. "It would be something cool, but I've said it before: I'm not here for my own achievements. I just want us to win more games when I'm on the mound than not, and to do my job."

Burnett is 6-2 with a 1.89 ERA this season and if it weren't for Gerrit Cole, he'd possibly be regarded as the ace of the Pirates' staff.

Burnett has already announced that the 2015 season will be his last so an All-Star game would certainly be a great memory.

"It'd be nice, but I can't worry about it," Burnett said. "It's out of my hands. All that other stuff is out of my control."
