Pierzynski out with oblique strain

Published Jul. 24, 2012 7:33 p.m. ET

Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski was out of the lineup for Tuesday night's game against the Minnesota Twins with a minor strain in his right oblique.

Pierzynski, batting .287 with 16 homers and 50 RBIs, suffered the injury swinging the bat during Monday night's game. Manager Robin Ventura said Pierzynski might also sit out Wednesday's series finale because the White Sox want to make sure his condition doesn't get worse. He said the strain bothers Pierzynski only when he swings.

Tyler Flowers got the start behind the plate for the White Sox.
