Phillies fan takes HR ball to face
We’ve seen several great fan catches at ballparks all across Major League Baseball this year. But, by and large, there’s a reason that the fans are the fans and the players are the players.
For evidence, I point you to the Washington Nationals’ 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Nats rookie Anthony Rendon stepped to the plate to lead off the top of the fifth inning, and on the fourth pitch of the at-bat, Rendon smashed a laser home run off Cliff Lee to left field to give Washington a 1-0 lead.
As if it wasn’t already bad enough for the Phillies fan in the front row that his team just fell behind, he also got hit with the home run ball — right IN THE FACE:
Here’s a close-up of the ball-to-face contact, if you missed it in real time:
Next time, wear a glove, dude. Or a helmet.
