Padres' minor league affiliate offers Letterman internship

David Letterman hosted his final Late Night show on Wednesday night which means he’s going into retirement -- unless he’d like to be an intern for the Padres’ Single A affiliate. With Letterman born and raised in Indiana, the Fort Wayne TinCaps released a humorous open letter to the late night talk show host to join their team. The letter begins:

Dear Dave, We know you still have a lot of good years left and aren't ready to retire yet, so consider this: We'd like to invite you to intern with us.

The letter pokes fun of Letterman’s career as a comedian as it discusses how challenging his new role would be:

Now, make no mistake about it, interning in Minor League Baseball is more challenging than cracking jokes for a living. That isn't to say you can't make people laugh still, but you'll also be tasked with dressing up as our mascot, helping to pull the tarp, rolling hot dogs, selling tickets, and more during the course of some 12-plus hour days.

Following the letter, signed by “Johnny TinCap,” Johnny tips his cap to Letterman’s signature “Top Ten” list with the “Top Ten Reasons David Letterman Should Intern with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.”

Among the reasons:

No. 10 You’ll be paid in cotton candy. No. 6 Need to spice up your marriage? We can put you on the Kiss Cam. No. 3 We'll take out the ceremonial first pitch so you can still do a monologue.
