Padres hire ex-Diamondbacks GM Byrnes

The San Diego Padres have hired Josh Byrnes as senior vice president for baseball operations.

Byrnes was general manager of the NL West rival Arizona Diamondbacks from November 2005 until he was fired on July 1, along with manager A.J. Hinch.

Byrnes and Padres general manager Jed Hoyer worked together in the front office of the Boston Red Sox.
