Padres' Derek Norris leading NL catchers in hitting, cool nicknames

Published May. 20, 2015 8:59 p.m. ET

Perhaps it is because Derek Norris is hitting so well that he deemed it appropriate to give himself the nickname of “Norrisaurusrex,” according to Dennis Lin of U-T San Diego. Norris’ two-run double in the eighth carried the Padres to a 4-3 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday night. It was the catcher’s 15th double of the season.

According to a tweet by Friar Figures, Norris squats head and shoulders above the rest of the catchers in the National League with those 15 doubles. He also leads all NL catchers with 25 RBIs, and his 19 extra-base hits are more than double the next closest catcher’s total.
