Padres call up Medica from Double-A San Antonio

The San Diego Padres promoted infielder Tommy Medica from Double-A San Antonio on Tuesday.

Medica, 25, was available when the Padres opened a three-game series at the Phillies, hoping to make his major league debut.

San Diego originally took Medica in the 14th round of the 2010 amateur draft out of Santa Clara University.

In 76 games with San Antonio this season, Medica hit .296 with 18 homers and 57 RBIs.
