The Orioles signed outfielder Luke Scott to a one-year, $2.4 million contract Tuesday, avoiding salary arbitration.

Scott, 30, batted .257 with 23 homers and 65 RBIs last season, his first with the Orioles after arriving from the Astros in the Miguel Tejada trade.

The 30-year-old Scott has a .266 career batting average, 51 home runs and 170 RBIs in 379 games. He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the ninth round of the 2001 amateur draft.
