The Baltimore Orioles have placed right-hander reliever David Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle.

The injury occurred in the eighth inning of Wednesday night's 9-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels. After throwing a wild pitch, Hernandez twisted his ankle while running toward home plate. He immediately left the game.

Hernandez is 5-8 with a 4.52 ERA in 25 appearances, including eight starts. As a reliever, he's 4-3 with two saves and a 3.29 ERA.

To fill the void, the Orioles on Thursday purchased the contract of right-hander Armando Gabino from Triple-A Norfolk. The 26-year-old Gabino was 7-0 with a 2.12 ERA in 27 games with the Tides.
