Orioles farmhand Michael Bowden opts out of contract

Published Jul. 16, 2015 10:47 p.m. ET

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Michael Bowden led the Triple-A International League in ERA, but he has chosen to become a free agent, according to reports.

Bowden came to the O's for cash considerations from the Reds, but was unable to break the Major League roster.

A future in Baltimore didn't seem promising, as the rotation is currently full of veterans and the bullpen is one of the best in baseball.

Bowden, who had a 1.91 ERA with the Norfolk Tides, is not free to sign with another club.
