The Washington Nationals have recalled outfielder Roger Bernadina from Triple-A Syracuse to take the place of Rick Ankiel.

Bernadina was in the lineup batting leadoff and playing center field for Saturday's game at Florida. Ankiel was placed on the DL Friday, retroactive to Tuesday, with a sprained right wrist.

Bernadina batted .270 in 18 games with Syracuse. He joined Washington with a career average of .243 in 165 major-league games over four seasons, all with the Nationals.
