No girls allowed? Not anymore: Indians have new clubhouse tradition (VIDEO)
The Cleveland Indians are breaking barriers when it comes to clubhouse traditions.
For decades, players have been able to take their sons with them inside the team clubhouse, but daughters were never allowed. Until now.
Nick Swisher and David Murphy pushed for the idea of allowing daughters in the team clubhouse. The two players, who both spent time on the disabled list last season, often worked out and rehabbed at the team facility, which sometimes meant bringing the kids along. Swisher and Murphy approached the front office with the idea of opening the clubhouse to the girls in June 2014, and they gladly obliged.
"That's what you have to do, you have to have that connection with your players," Giambi said in an interview with the Akron Beacon Journal last season. "There's so many little girls, and daddies always have their little girls. It would be something cool they could share."
So while the Indians might have a much more crowded clubhouse come Sunday, it's definitely a much happier one.
