Nationals' Werth: Wrist 'about as bad as it could be without being broke'
The good news for the Washington Nationals is that outfielder Jayson Werth's wrist isn't broken. However, that doesn't serve as much of a consolation to him.
Werth caught up with reporters following the Nationals' 8-6 win on Tuesday and gave an update on his injured wrist, which has sent him to the disabled list.
"It's still swollen," Werth said. "It was bad. About as bad as it could be without being broke."
Despite lingering swelling, Werth, who turns 36 on Wednesday, is taking the injury in stride. Although, he's doing so with plenty of caution.
"I'm optimistic but I don't feel like I'm out of the woods yet," Werth said. "Hopefully in a couple days it will respond a lot better and we'll get going. But right now, I'm still pretty banged up. The tests were good, but I still feel like I have a ways to go."
Manager Matt Williams is seeing the bright side in the injury despite the swelling.
"It's good. It's good news," Williams said. "It doesn't mean that it's not going to be swollen or sore, but there's no damage, which is a good sign. We'll do what we can to get that swelling out of there and make sure we maintain strength and get him back to playing as quickly as possible."
