WASHINGTON (AP) Less than three weeks after being sent to the minors, Blake Treinen returned to the Nationals on Thursday.

The 6-foot-5 Treinen, who struggled against left-handed batters, was demoted after allowing four runs and five hits in a third of an inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 19. His earned run average went from 3.54 to 4.39.

Treinen allowed no runs and six hits over 12 innings in five games for Syracuse. Fellow right-hander Aaron Barrett was sent down to Syracuse.

Barrett allowed three runs and four hits while committing a throwing error that brought home two Arizona runs while retiring just one of five batters on Wednesday.
