Nationals bring Ankiel back from DL

Published May. 24, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Washington Nationals outfielder Rick Ankiel was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list after a sore right wrist kept him out of the last 19 games.

Ankiel went 0 for 4 during a one-game rehab assignment in Double-A Harrisburg. His recall became more pressing when first baseman Adam LaRoche was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Sunday, because of a torn labrum.

Ankiel is batting .221 with one home run and seven RBIs in 28 games with the Nationals after agreeing to a $1.5 million, one-year contract in the offseason.

The Nationals were at Milwaukee on Tuesday night.
