Napoli scratched due to sore left foot

Published Aug. 17, 2013 6:37 p.m. ET

Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli was scratched from the original lineup because of a sore left foot in Boston's game against the New York Yankees on Saturday.

Napoli, hitting 5 for 42 in his last 12 games, was replaced by Mike Carp.

With Napoli unable to play, Red Sox manager John Farrell decided not to give outfielder Shane Victorino the day off after he left Friday's loss with a sore hamstring.
