Ms' Aardsma to begin rehab, Gutierrez has setback

Published Apr. 17, 2011 2:56 p.m. ET

Mariners closer David Aardsma is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment, while center fielder Franklin Gutierrez has had a setback in his comeback from gastritis.

The Mariners said Sunday before their game against the Royals that Aardsma will throw Tuesday for Tacoma, the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate.

Aardsma had left hip surgery Jan. 3 on torn labrum and began the season on the disabled list.

Gutierrez flew to Seattle for a reevaluation after being scratched from a rehab assignment with Class-A High Desert in the California League. Manager Eric Wedge says the club has discussed sending him to the Mayo Clinic for tests.
