Mets' Hairston hits for the cycle

Published Apr. 28, 2012 12:48 a.m. ET

Scott Hairston became the 10th New York Mets player to hit for the cycle in the team's game with the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

Hairston completed the cycle with a two-run double off reliever Josh Roenicke in the sixth inning, helping the Mets pull to within 13-9 after the Rockies had scored 11 runs in the fifth to go in front.

It was the 11th time that a player has hit for the cycle at Coors Field, and the fifth time by an opposing player.

Hairston singled in the second inning and hit a solo home in the fourth off starter Drew Pomeranz, who was lifted after the fourth inning because of tightness in his left forearm.

He had an RBI triple in the fifth off reliever Esmil Rogers.

Jose Reyes was the last Met to hit for the cycle. Reyes had his cycle on July 21, 2006, against Cincinnati.

Hairston struck out to end the seventh.
