Mets' Collins: Wright optimistic he'll be cleared by doctor on Monday
New York Mets third baseman David Wright has an important doctor's appointment on Monday, and he has a good feeling about it.
Wright is scheduled for another follow-up with Los Angeles back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday, and he's optimistic he'll be cleared to commence more intense activity as he continues to rehab his back after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis.
"He's doing some things that are related to baseball activities," manager Terry Collins said. "He's got a doctor's appointment on Monday. He's hoping that he can start some other, more aggressive things on the field real soon."
The 32-year-old third baseman, who hasn't played for the Mets since April 14, is on the verge of running again.
ESPN.com reports that Wright would likely need a month of preparation once he is cleared for baseball activities before he'll be ready to play in a major-league game.
