McGwire reportedly will take over as Padres bench coach

Mark McGwire is expected to be named the San Diego Padres' new bench coach, CBS Sports reports.
He will replace Dave Roberts, who was just hired as the new manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
McGwire, 52, spent the past three seasons as the hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Prior to that, he served for three seasons as the St. Louis Cardinals' hitting coach.

During his 16-season major-league career, McGwire hit 583 homers, was a 12-time All-Star and won the 1987 AL Rookie of the Year Award with the Oakland Athletics.
