Three-time AL batting champion Joe Mauer became the latest athlete to endorse Head & Shoulders shampoo, inking a deal with Procter & Gamble on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Twins catcher will be featured in advertisements for Head & Shoulders for Men, the company announced.

Mauer, who has been growing his hair longer, joins Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu as Head & Shoulders' top pitchmen. The company also has insured Polamalu's signature long locks for $1 million.

"Sports are a common ground for the people who use our shampoo, and having genuine and likeable star athletes like Joe and Troy can help guys become more aware of the importance of hair care and grooming," said April Anslinger, North America brand manager of Head & Shoulders.

Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews signed a deal just before the team's Super Bowl XLV victory to appear in ads for Suave shampoo.

Mauer, a native of St. Paul, Minn., signed an eight-year, $184 million contract extension with the Twins before last season, the richest deal ever for a catcher.
