Mattingly says Ethier to remain left fielder for Dodgers upon Crawford's return

When Yasiel Puig returned from the disabled list, Andre Ethier moved over to left field after starting in right in Puig’s stead. That was expected. Ethier will not, however, be pushed out of left when Carl Crawford comes off the DL.

While Crawford started the season as the Dodgers’ starting left fielder, his stay on the 60-day DL has allowed Ethier to play his way into that spot. He’s done so well that manager Don Mattingly has already snuffed out any uncertainly that there might have been regarding Ethier’s status well ahead of Crawford’s return. Per MLB.com, Mattingly said:

"Andre's kind of taken that spot, to be honest with you.”

Mattingly further said that Crawford would have to “earn his way” back.

Ethier is hitting .275 with nine home runs and an OPS of .840 -- his best since an All-Star season in 2010.
