Marlins open roof for game against Red Sox

Published Jun. 11, 2012 8:16 p.m. ET

The Miami Marlins' retractable roof is open for their game against the Boston Red Sox, a surprising development with South Florida's steamy rainy season under way.

A high-pressure system brought unusually dry weather to the area, and half an hour before Monday's night game started, workers at the Marlins' new ballpark opened the roof, treating fans to clear skies and a balmy breeze.

The game-time temperature was 79 degrees.

It was only the fifth time the roof has been open this season, and the first since April 18. Team president David Samson said last month he expected the roof to be closed for the rest of the regular season.
