Mariners' Saunders out with groin injury

Published Aug. 25, 2012 8:35 p.m. ET

Seattle Mariners outfielder Michael Saunders is out of the starting lineup due to a groin injury.

Manager Eric Wedge says Saunders was hurt when he collided with teammate Eric Thames while trying to chase down Paul Konerko's winning single for the White Sox on Friday.

Konerko lined a ball to right-center with two on in the bottom of the ninth and Thames had the ball in his glove momentarily, but it came out after he ran into Saunders, allowing Dewayne Wise to score in Chicago's 9-8 victory.

Thames also was missing from Saturday's starting lineup, but Wedge said it was due to the left-handed pitching matchup, not a physical issue.

Saunders is tied for the team lead with 14 homers.
