Mariners activate Martin from disabled list, option Sardinas
SEATTLE (AP) Leonys Martin has been activated from the disabled list and will play center field Friday night for the Seattle Mariners, and Luis Sardinas was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
Martin was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 27 after suffering a strained hamstring. Martin was supposed to play seven innings in the outfield for Tacoma on rehab Thursday, but the Mariners scrapped those plans due to wet field conditions and brought Martin to Seattle instead.
Martin is batting .262 with nine home runs and 20 RBIs in 44 games.
Sardinas played in 13 games while Martin and Ketel Marte were on the disabled list. He hit .216 with a home run and three RBIs in 10 starts over that span. For the season, Sardinas is batting .190 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Martin is batting ninth against the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
