Manuel set to knock out media member

Published Jun. 24, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Do you think Charlie Manuel had cued up some vintage LL Cool J before the manager met the press after the Phillies game on Friday?

After being pressed by a longtime Philly sports media provocateur, Howard Eskin, about the Phillies’ lack of offense, Manuel was leaving the podium when Eskin asked him one last question: “When are you going to score 10 runs?” Manuel responded: “When I knock you out, that’s when.”

Yeah, seems like Charlie would fit right into this video:

Manuel is 69, an age when he should be growling at kids to get off his lawn rather than talking about knocking anyone out.

But this wasn’t the first time the two of them had a confrontation. In 2007, Manuel and Eskin got into a shouting match in the manager’s office after Eskin challenged Manuel to be tougher on his players. Manuel apparently wanted to knock him out that time, too.

After all, that’s what J’s mama said to do.
