Manfred attends 1st regular-season game as MLB commissioner

WASHINGTON (AP) Rob Manfred attended a game as baseball commissioner for the first time, calling it ''a materially different feeling.''

Manfred was at the Washington Nationals' opener against the visiting New York Mets on Monday.

Before the game, he announced that Nationals Park will host the 2018 All-Star Game. He also addressed a number of topics, saying:

- ''It really is hard to explain'' why players would be using Stanozolol - a performance-enhancer ''that's not particularly hard to catch in a drug test'' - these days; there were three positive tests reported by MLB recently, involving Twins pitcher Ervin Santana, Mariners pitcher David Rollins and Braves pitcher Arodys Vizcaino.

- Any progress in the MASN TV dispute involving the Nationals and Orioles would ''probably take place'' after a May 18 hearing in the case.

- On new pace-of-play efforts, ''we'll become a little more aggressive as players have an opportunity to get used to the changed rules.''
