The Los Angeles Angels are stocking up on players to compete in the minor leagues. They’ve recently added a couple of players via minor league deals.

The Los Angeles Angels will have a vast amount of talent to digest come Spring Training. Within the non-roster invites is a couple of players who have signed minor league deals. The Angels are clearly rebuilding the farm with veterans.

The Angels signed RHP Bud Norris to a minor league deal just a few weeks ago. Now, they are bringing in former number two pick Dustin Ackley to Spring Training with a minor league deal as well.

Ackley was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 2009 draft. Since then, he has spent time in Seattle and New York with the Yankees. Ackley is a lefty at the bat and a career first baseman. Although, he can play second and third as well.

He’s coming off of 28 appearances last season with the Yankees. In those 28 games, he saw the plate 70 times and had a batting average of .148.

Ackley has had some injury issues as of late. Most recently, he tore his right labrum last May, ending his season. Ackley signing is probably just keeping a backstock of infield players.

I assume Billy Eppler is somewhat gun-shy after the massive amount of injuries that consumed the Angels last season. By having guys like Ackley, Norris, and Matt Thaiss; you’ll have players that can help get wins if the worst happens to the starting roster.

Being assigned the task of rebuilding both a franchise and a farm system is a daunting. However, Eppler has been successful in his efforts thus far. The Angels will need to maintain health throughout the 2017 season to have a chance to compete for the AL West division.

Spring Training gets underway in a matter of weeks. Pitchers and catchers will report to Tempe Arizona on Valentines Day. This is going to be a big season for the Angels. Expect for them to be in the playoff race early and often throughout the season.
