Lee still has abdominal pain

Published Mar. 25, 2010 7:12 p.m. ET

New Mariners ace Cliff Lee says he still feels his strained abdominal muscle following his second short throwing session on flat ground in three days.

The 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner said Thursday that the injury felt a bit better after five minutes of throwing in the outfield grass of a side field.

Lee thought he would continue to throw off flat ground every other day for now.

Each day he's not on a mound increases the likelihood Lee will be on the disabled list when the season begins April 5.

He sustained the injury March 15 in a collision behind the plate with Arizona catcher Chris Snyder.
