Kris Bryant a hit ... on billboard outside Wrigley Field

Published Apr. 4, 2015 1:20 p.m. ET

Kris Bryant's demotion from the Chicago Cubs has caused consternation for the team's fans. It has also provided inspiration for adidas, which has built what would likely be the first billboard for a minor leaguer ... outside Wrigley Field.

Bryant lit up spring training to the tune of nine home runs and a .425 average in 40 at-bats over 14 games. That was enough to have the World Series-starved Cubs faithful dreaming.

However, the Cubs decided it was prudent for them to send Bryant to Triple-A Iowa because they can delay his eligibility for free agency until 2021 if he stays in the minors for 12 days.

That itself has caused ire among the Major League Baseball Players Association.

And, it provided fodder for a clever ad exec with adidas. Now, there is a billboard outside Wrigley heralding the 23-year-old Bryant.
