BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang will have to wait for his first hit as a big leaguer.
The rookie had a weak groundout in his only plate appearance in three innings of work at shortstop in a six-inning intrasquad scrimmage on Monday. The Black team beat Kang and the Gold team 2-1.
Steve Lombardozzi had two hits for the Black team. Andrew Lambo had an RBI single for the Black team and Jose Tabata's sacrifice fly produced the winning run in the fourth inning off Blake Wood. Adrian Sampson picked up the win. Gregory Polanco went 2 for 3 with a double for the Gold team.
The Pirates begin Grapefruit League play Tuesday when they play Toronto in Dunedin. Casey Sadler will start for Pittsburgh.
