Jones returning to Tigers as pitching coach

Published Nov. 6, 2013 2:39 p.m. ET

Pitching coach Jeff Jones will remain with the Detroit Tigers under new manager Brad Ausmus.

The Tigers also announced Wednesday they have hired Dave Clark as third base coach and outfield instructor.

Jones became Detroit's pitching coach in the middle of the 2011 season, and the Tigers have developed one of the game's best starting rotations. Max Scherzer is a front-runner for the AL Cy Young Award this year, and Justin Verlander won it in 2011.

Ausmus was hired after manager Jim Leyland retired. Gene Lamont is staying on as bench coach and Jones will be back, as well.

Clark spent five seasons with the Houston Astros. He was first base coach last season after four years as third base coach.
